We have arrived! Safely and soundly with barely a hiccup we have arrived at our new home. And with the arrival of our internet today, I thought I would take a much needed break from the boxes and unpacking to give you a tour — or at least a sneak peak of a few cozy corners.
One of my most favourite (so far) things about our new home is our lovely neighbours. We get to have breakfast with them every morning. Our little home is nestled among two neighbouring horse paddocks giving the little ones plenty to watch and daydream about while they should be eating. Especially Madeline who is quickly coming up with a plan to get a horse of her very own. I think we will start with some chickens (hopefully arriving within a week or two once we build their coop)
The previous owners of this charming home decided to leave many of the original windows and opted to adapt them for energy efficiency instead of replacing. While they no longer open, they add so much character to the home.
This fireplace will be so cozy in the winter. It will be such a lovely Christmas home with the fireplaces, horses, and all of the wood. There are gorgeous wooden floors in every room – which I am trying to quickly cover with area rugs before little boy toys and puppy dog nails leave their mark. A battle I fear I am already losing – though I would take little boys and puppy dogs over gorgeous wooden floors each and every time.
The stories that come with this home are many, and while we cannot be certain of them we know that these huge wooden beams throughout the main floor are lovely – wherever they came from.
We found a lovely home for our swingset under a great big tree. And with my little ones swinging away, it almost feels like home already – while it is always hard to move (as I wrote about in this post on exactly that) – it really is the people within the space that make the home. This property has so many huge trees. We had so many choices where to put that swingset to get plenty of shade in the hot afternoon sun. And many trees to make a fairy garden soon as well.
We stumbled upon this lovely old tree which makes the most perfect hideout for little adventurers. The plan for carpeting this fort with pinecones has already begun – and I do believe that project will take quite awhile. It’s a good thing as I have a few projects of my own to keep busy with.
While this little patch of grass may not look like much now, it will soon feed my family. Such big plans for this space! We hope to have 8 or 10 (or if John asks 6) raised garden beds for our vegetables. A few fruit trees and some berry bushes placed safely out of reach from our lovely neighbours too. Yes, I will be spending a lot of my time in this space next season – it will be wonderful. And that lovely little pine? Well, it will be sacrificing itself for the greater good – it promised me it doesn’t mind. Come December it will be our Christmas Tree, and shortly after it will be made into a lovely set of homemade blocks!
And while I would love to continue to show you around our new home I am afraid it will have to wait my friends. The boxes and unpacking await me, and this country internet speed will take some getting used to! Thank you so much for coming on the tour, and for your patience as my posts have slowed during this busy time. Things will be picking up again soon, I have so many ideas to share!
Thank you, as always, for your support of this little space of mine – and please make sure to join me at my second home as well: www.Facebook.com/HowWeeLearn
