Valentine’s day … a day of love … a day of kisses … a day of hugs … a day of stamping celery into paint and sending the resulting prints to those you love. Sigh…
So, with Valentines day just less then a month away I thought I would share a simple way to make some adorable Valentines with kids. I believe homemade Valentine’s are the best! But they can be quite time consuming when you need to make oodles … Grandparents, Aunts, Cousins, friends … they can really add up. This is a quick and simple way to make really cute Valentines!
To make our celery heart stamped Valentines:
First I cut stalks of celery. The cut ends look just like hearts!
Then we dipped those celery hearts into paint and stamped them all over paper. We cut out some paper hearts to stamp, and stamped the hearts on regular Valentines too.
Madeline wrote a cute poem for her friends:
Roses are red, Violets are blue,
I’m so lucky to be friends with you!
And then covered the poem with celery heart stamps.
Benjamin dipped his celery stalk in water and made some celery heart stamps onto construction paper … yes the hearts did dry and could no longer be seen, but he still loved participating … and he loved the celery too
This Valentine’s craft would be great to do in a classroom. It was simple enough for my Sam, age 3.5, to do completely on his own. It is also a great activity for a wide variety of ages – bigger kids can practice patterns and mixing colours, or painting the celery stalk with thin paint brushes to make designs in their celery hearts. Baby’s can stamp (and taste) with water. Fun for all ages!
This was our first Valentine’s day craft of the season … and we have got some more headed your way soon!
Want to LOVE time with your little ones? My eBook makes it easy:

We just did it again today Susen … it is a great craft for a snowy day! And makes super sweet Valentine’s too. Good luck with the groceries 🙂 Never too simple with little ones in tow.
Totally doing this with the kids this weekend for their. Class valentines 🙂
