Not only does making homemade birthday cards save you $100 (or 40 coffees out, 2 nights at the movies, a lovely dinner out…) they are also such a treasure to receive.
A homemade birthday card for a mom, dad, grandparent, aunt, or uncle can be the most favourite gift received! And they don’t even need to be tricky to make either. These ideas are easy!

I have had 20+ years of making cards with little ones, and have stumbled upon some incredible ideas along the way.

Blow Up the Balloon Card by Buckets and Spades – You simply can’t get much more creative than this idea! Write a secret message on a birthday balloon and mail it to a loved one. They need to inflate it to read it!
Birthday Party Hat Birthday Card by CaraftoArt – This one would also be sweet as a party invitation. And if you add a large elastic band, the lucky recipient could wear this treasure!
Scrap Paper Birthday Cake by True Aim – Love that you can use whatever you have on hand for this birthday card and whatever colours your birthday boy or girl loves most. It would also be sweet made with fabric!
Candle Birthday Card by Real Simple (link no longer available) – Such a simple idea using birthday candles—and wonderful for little ones to make for friends who might be turning 3, 4, or 5!
Potato Printed Birthday Cards by MollyMoo Crafts – Another one with endless possibilities! I love the little animals created with these potato stamps, but they could be balloons too!
I Think You’re Dandy Card by Crafty Morning – My little ones would have a blast with the process of making this card, and it looks very sweet when finished too! Homemade birthday cards should be as fun to make as they are meaningful to receive. A little paint, a few fingerprints, and you are all set!

Handprint Birthday Cake Birthday Card – We just made this one for my Mama’s 60th birthday and it was a big hit! Use a sweet little handprint, add some lace, and make each finger a birthday candle.
Easy Pop up Flowers by Kitchen Floor Crafts – How about adding a simple (and really fun) pop up element to your birthday cards? Any Mama would love this 3D pop up flower DIY card!
Recycled Paper Seed Cards by Fireflies and Mudpies – If you are looking to make a homemade birthday card for a nature-loving Mom, this one is for you!

Homemade Monster Cards by Red Ted Art – This one is great for toddlers and little artists of all ages! Add as many shapes as you can and with a few googly eyes it becomes a monster! Daddy would love to receive this card for his birthday from his little monster.
Nuts For You Birthday Card by Maggie Made Cards – All you need are flat washers for this one. What a sweet birthday card for a handy Daddy or Grandpa… or in this house, Mama!
5 Handprint Valentine’s Day Cards by The Pinning Mama – While these cards are intended for Valentine’s Day, they would be sweet birthday cards for loved ones any time of the year! I know a superhero Dad who will be receiving a special handprint birthday card this year, homemade by his little admirer.

Loving Handprint Flamingos by Glued to my Crafts Blog – Chances are if you stick a handprint on something, I am going to adore it. And if you add in some hearts and love, I will likely have no choice but to recreate it. This one is so sweet!
Sticker Resist Homemade Cards by Learn with Play at Home – Oh the options for this one! You could use the stickers to spell a name or a special message. Anything goes to personalize this homemade birthday card.
Crayon Resist Birthday Cards by Happy Hooligans – I love using crayon resist techniques with toddlers. A fun process, and always a beautiful outcome. You could make a homemade ‘thank you’ card, or use this technique by adding balloons, birthday cake, and so on with crayons for a lovely crayon resist birthday card!
Hama Bead Birthday Cards by Red Ted Art – I used to make TONS of creations with Hama (or Perler) beads when I was little. Adding them to birthday cards is brilliant!

Popping Ears Puppy Birthday Card by MmmmmCrafts – While this one might be a bit tough for little ones to make, it would be a wonderful birthday card for an older sibling to tackle!
We Just Fit Card by Real Simple (link no longer available) – Love the idea of using puzzle pieces. What a sweet card for a Mommy or a Daddy, a grandma or a grandpa, or a sibling!
Button Head Birthday Cards (link no longer available) – If you are lucky enough to have a little one just beginning to draw stick people, you must try this idea with buttons! It would be adorable.
