This week marks the beginning of Spring! Though there is nothing at all spring like around these parts yet. We have snow on top of our snow, and ice below that. This has been one long winter.

But it will end. One day we will wake up and it will not look quite so white outside. One day we will wake up and it will begin to look green! And what an exciting day that will be.

For now, our firewood is dwindling, as are our winter mittens. The cold and dark of winter is beginning to get to this Mama. So I thought it time to do some spring crafting!

There is nothing quite like seeds to signify spring. While our planting days are still far off in the future, we do have some seeds. I found some great crafts and art activities for kids that use seeds so I thought I would share them with you here, just in case you too were needing a reminder of the promise of spring.

Many of these seed art activities actually use beans — but I checked my trusty friend Google and learned that beans are indeed a seed (of legumes). So we can craft away with beans for these seed art activities without feeling like rebels!

Here are some fun seed art activities for kids this spring:

Seed Pictures by Krokotak. These beautiful bird pictures are such a great addition to a nature study. All of the birds are returning (and with any luck, so will our Delilah!) and what a great way to add some beautiful art to that excitement.

Seed Mosaic in a CD Case by Mini Matisse. Having a small defined space is a great way to support young artists. Sometimes a large page can feel rather intimidating or even overwhelming! Define a small art canvas and all of a sudden those eager little hands are ready to fill the space.

Owl Bean art by Fun Family Crafts. This adorable little owl is going to be a project that my Madeline will love to tackle! She adores all things owl, and this seed mosaic is just too sweet not to try.

Sunflower Seed Art by Happy Hooligans. Picking up those tiny little seeds and controlling where that seed ends up is a major workout for little fingers! This art activity is a great way to strengthen fine motor skills.

Bean Art with Popsicle Sticks by Creative Jewish Mom. This mosaic is another great way to define the art space to give little artists a bit more support. I know the blogger mentions she uses an old toy, but popsicle sticks would work very well also.

Seed Pendants by Child Central Station. Which child would not love to wear their seed art?! These simple pendants using juice lids are such a great way to make some wearable art – or to make a one of a kind gift!

Salt Dough Bean Art by Pre-schoolplay. I love the idea of using salt dough as the background for seed art. No messy glue needed. The salt dough will securely hold those seeds in place once dried. We plan on getting out the cookie cutters and making some little critters out of salt dough and beans!

We will keep you posted with our seed crafting – and please keep me posted with yours! We must stick together to power through these last few wintry days (weeks …)  But power through we will.
