I am excited to partner with Simply Piano to bring you this post on Online Piano Lessons for Kids!
It was a particularly icy cold winter day and we were particularly cold and bored. Too cold to be out for long, but not much new happening in the house. It was the perfect recipe for a certain child of mine to decide he was going to embark on a new hobby.
Sometimes boredom really does breed creativity! And, of course, other times it breeds squabbling and fighting. In our case it is typically the second. But not on this day!
As a rather stereotypical homeschool Mom I was pumped when Sam came running in to tell me he was going to start learning the piano. Pumped for about 15 seconds until I realized it would probably mean piano lessons. Which would mean yet another activity to get a child to – plus the expense. Oh, piano lessons. I tell ya, that is the one downside to homeschooling – all of those extra curricular costs!
After thinking it through a bit I realized there had to be online piano lessons for kids available. A quick Google search presented me with tons of options! Luckily, I am one who does not at all mind a bit of research (yep, stereotypical homeschool Mom). I did my due diligence, checked out a few, decided on Simply Piano, and 3 months later we are thrilled with the results.
So thrilled, in fact, that I wanted to share with you all about our experience. Simply Piano is even offering you a 14 day trial to see if it is right for you and yours! But first, let me share a little about what you can expect.
As I mentioned, Sam has been doing Simply Piano for 3 months now and really enjoys it. He practices for about 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a week. The best part is that he does this all on his own. He finds it very fun and loves to see how quickly he is able to progress.
When starting, we were able to select some goals and things we wanted to focus on. The goals we selected for Sam were:
- Learn the basics
- Read sheet music
- learn music theory and notation
But there were oodles of other goals to choose from as well. Simply Piano says there app is appropriate for ages 4+, but I only have experience with using it with an 11 year old child. Once you select your goals, you get a completely personalized plan put in place.
Simply Piano is not video lessons, it is so much more. You open the app and pop it on your keyboard or piano. It listens to you play in real time and gives you feedback as you go. And like all great, motivating online things you earn stickers, badges, and confetti sprinkles regularly.
The teacher in me was so impressed with how logically everything flowed together. Children began playing fun songs straight away, only playing a few notes in each song at first, gradually building as time went on. At first children learn the basic skills of piano and sight reading. Next, they learn to play using two hands. Afterwards, the songs expand to a full octave and finally children learn two octaves, flats, sharps and scales. It keeps going after this, we are just not at that part yet.
Simply Piano also has a blog so you can learn a bit more about them and read some cool articles about playing the piano as well, like this one: The Ultimate Guide to Beginner Piano Lessons for Kids
I honestly thought we would use Simply Piano to see if learning to play the piano was something that was going to be a hit and, if so, we would then pursue in-person piano lessons. But I now feel as though Sam is learning all of the skills he will need with these online piano lessons. How cool is that?
And, as I promised, here is your link so you can try out these cool, online piano lessons for kids yourself: Get started with a 14 day trial here.
I hope you and yours enjoy this as much as our family has! If you try it out, please leave a comment below telling me what you think.
Thank you so much for reading!
