How does a chick hatch from an egg? Why do we fill baskets with Easter treats? And what does a little animal called a bilby have to do with Easter in Australia? There’s plenty to wonder about among the chocolate bunnies and colorful eggs!
I’m excited to share our Easter School Family Unit Study with you! Across ten topics, you’ll learn about baby animals, springtime changes, and Easter traditions, with a little science, art, geography, and more along the way.
You’ll turn a washcloth into a bunny, put your building skills to the test with an egg drop challenge, and make chocolate-covered marshmallow treats to share. You’ll even plan an Easter treasure hunt of your own, leaving a trail of clues for someone to follow!
Below, I’m sharing all ten topics and a peek at the hands-on activities you’ll enjoy together. Let’s hop into some Easter learning and fun!
What is a Family Unit Study?
But first… what exactly is a Family Unit Study?
This unit study, like all of our ever-growing library of unit studies, takes one big theme—Easter—and breaks it down into ten manageable, bite-sized learning topics. This format gives you the freedom to dive into learning at a pace that works for your family. Perhaps you do one topic per day, perhaps one per week. Whatever suits your fancy! You can learn and explore topics from start to finish in about 1-2 hours each.
Dive in and watch the sparks of wonder ignite. Watch the child-led learning take off. Watch what happens when children are engaged in what they are learning!
Each of the 10 topics includes:
- an interesting fact,
- a discussion question,
- informative information,
- a curated YouTube video,
- a recommended book,
- a math or literacy enrichment question (with three difficulty levels),
- and an ultimate-can’t-be-beat hands-on activity!
Plus, all subjects are covered across the 10 topics! Geography, History, Science, Social Studies, Music, Art, Health, Literacy, and Math.
When everything connects across subjects, learning just makes more sense. Kids remember more, understand better, and actually enjoy the process. It’s the kind of learning that really sticks. 🙌
Before we get started, I’d love to share a little something to make your homeschool days just a bit easier (because we all need that, right?).

Easter School Unit Study
Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect in the Easter School Family Unit Study. Below are the 10 topics, along with some examples of the hands-on activities you will enjoy together.
Topic #1: Chicks
How does a tiny chick grow inside an egg – and finally break free? You’ll learn about the chicken life cycle and why chicks are a familiar symbol of Easter and new life. Then, you’ll color, cut, and arrange the stages into an accordion-fold keepsake, following a chicken’s journey from egg to adult!
Topic #2: Bunnies
With their twitchy noses and fluffy tails, bunnies are a familiar Easter favorite! You’ll get to know these furry animals and consider how they became part of our Easter traditions. Then, turn a simple washcloth into a sweet little bunny that can double as an ice pack for those springtime bumps and scrapes.
Topic #3: Spring
Longer days, budding branches, and birdsong – there’s so much to notice as spring arrives! You’ll talk about the changes this season brings and how new beginnings connect spring with Easter. Bring those springtime colors to the page with watercolor pencils, turning egg shapes into bright, polka-dotted treetops.
Topic #4: Easter Eggs
Easter eggs have a story that goes well beyond the chocolate aisle! You’ll learn about their place in Easter celebrations before putting your problem-solving skills to work in an egg drop challenge. Using everyday materials, you’ll design, build, and test a protective structure. Can you keep your egg from cracking when it lands?
Topic #5: Easter Egg Hunt
It’s your turn to be the one hiding the Easter treasure! After learning about the tradition of Easter egg hunts, you’ll plan a hunt of your own, writing clues that lead from one hiding spot to the next. Invite someone to follow your trail and see if they can follow your clues to the surprise!
Topic #6: Easter Basket
A basket full of Easter goodies needs a sturdy design! You’ll take a look at the history of baskets and their place in Easter traditions before tackling a building challenge of your own. With pipe cleaners, craft sticks, clothespins, tape, and string, can you build a basket strong enough to hold five eggs?
Topic #7: Easter Around the World
A giant omelet in France, splashing water in Poland, and an Easter Bilby in Australia – Easter celebrations can look quite different from one place to the next! You’ll get a taste of traditions from several countries, then cut out pictures of the celebrations and match them to their locations on a world map. Which tradition would your family like to try?
Topic #8: Chocolate
There’s quite a journey behind that chocolate bunny in your Easter basket! You’ll follow the process from cacao pod to finished chocolate, then head to the kitchen to make chocolate-covered marshmallow treats. Add sprinkles or candy for an Easter touch, and watch the melted chocolate cool into a firm shell – if you can wait that long for a taste!
Topic #9: Easter Lily
Those lovely white Easter lilies have more to them than meets the eye! You’ll learn about their place in Easter celebrations and get to know the parts of the plant, from the bulb below ground to the trumpet-shaped flowers above. Then, trace your child’s hand to make a paper lily, curling the fingers into petals and adding a pipe cleaner stem.
Topic #10: Easter Dinner
What would you put on your dream Easter dinner plate? You’ll talk about your family’s favorite holiday foods and learn about Easter dishes enjoyed in other parts of the world. Then, cut out food pictures and arrange them on a paper plate to create your own Easter feast – there’s room for all your favorites!
From tiny chicks to chocolate treats, there are so many ways to bring a little Easter fun into your homeschool days! I hope this peek at our Easter School Family Unit Study has given you a few ideas for learning and celebrating together.
Whether you’re crafting paper lilies, testing a homemade basket, or following clues on an Easter hunt, you’ll have plenty of chances to ask questions, try something new, and enjoy each other’s company. You might even find a new tradition your family will look forward to each spring!
