A bit of a different post here today, my friend. I share a lot on this blog about Quiet Time. A LOT. I share about daily quiet time activities for kids, quiet time activities that are mess-free, quiet time activities using things you have at home, and I even have an incredible Quiet Time Club!
At this point in time, you likely have a good idea about what Quiet Time looks like for my kids, but I don’t often share about what Quiet Time looks like for ME.
Well, since inquiring minds need to know such things, today I give you a glimpse into what my Quiet Time looks like. What exactly do I do during this glorious hour a day?
Allow me to paint the picture:
After lunch, my littlest and I head upstairs to get her Quiet Bin (which is now a no-prep thing, since we belong to The Quiet Time Club … that’s right, I’m not just the creator, I’m also a client (remember that commercial for Hair Club for Men??)) So we get her all set up with her Quiet Bin and her Visual Clock, pop on her diffuser and her soft lamp, and she is set for her special time to recharge.
I then head back downstairs to make sure that my older two have settled into quiet and independent activities. This is always reading for one, and often LEGO or an art project for my second.
I then head out to the kitchen, the clouds part, and a golden stream of light plunges through the window and lands on my head with a resounding, “Awwwwwwwww” and the glorious Quiet Time hour begins.
I write a lot on here about ‘seasons of life’ and how this has helped me immensely. Well, my daily Quiet Time looks very different depending on my needs at the time and depending on what season of life I am in.
There are seasons of life when I am really busy here with my blog, and I use Quiet Time to work. There are seasons when I am wanting to organize and clear clutter and I use Quiet Time for that purpose. There are times when I am feeling I don’t have enough time to myself, and I use Quiet Time to rectify that. There are seasons when I decide I am going to embark on a (completely random and bizarre) hobby, and I use Quiet Time for that.
Life is a journey and we need to have time to experience and do all the things! This can be a very large challenge when we have little ones, but Quiet Time gives me the opportunity to still do anything and everything I would like to.
So if I decide I want to learn all about medicinal herbs and channel my inner witch creating teas and tinctures, I have time to do just that. Not that I am saying I do that. But I might. I probably will.
My Quiet Time has run the gambit from having a daily period of time to lay on the couch and rest, meal plan or prep dinner, do housework, do blog work, exercise (well, once or twice), you name it. I decide what is important to me and what will bring me the most peace and joy, and then I accomplish that over Quiet Time.
There was a period of time when I would sit on the couch and pull out my phone. The hour would VANISH, and I would be left feeling irritated, tired, and cranky. I soon realized that binging on social media was not a good use of my time for Quiet Time. I thought it was relaxing and what I needed, but it was definitely not. So I decided that Quiet Time would not involve my phone.
Right now, at this precise season in life, my Quiet Time has evolved to be quite nurturing. Things in this world are a bit crazy, and I am finding I need to be more gentle with myself these days. So right now, my one hour of Quiet Time involves 20 minutes of answering emails from my lovely customers and blog readers and then 40 minutes of recharging and filling my own cup. Right now, this means 20 minutes of meditation and 20 minutes of tea and reading.
But pretty soon it’s going to involve seeds … and apparently witch craft … that is going to be a fun season.
Excited to have you along for the journey my friend. And if you are new to this Quiet Time journey, or even if you are not new at all, you should really join my Quiet Time Club!
