Friendship Flowers

May 9, 2016 by Sarah 7 Comments

Sometimes I think about sharing something in this space and decide against it as I feel it too simple. But tonight, as I was about to write a different post, I gave my head a good shake.

Too simple?

Is that even a thing when your a Mama?

No, I think this idea might just be perfect. It combines some of my most favourite things!

It’s simple.

It’s homemade.

And it teaches kindness.

This homemade birthday card is a great way to teach kindness.

Sammy had a birthday party to go to a little while ago. We started to make a card for the lovely birthday girl and while we did Sammy started to tell me some of the things that he likes about this friend.

It was so sweet that I thought she would like to know as well. We are big on filling buckets around here (Do you know that book? It is a favourite. It’s called Have You Filled a Bucket Today?)

I decided to cut out some flower petals so we could make a “Kenzie” Flower. Sam wanted to do all of the writing himself so I tried to make the petals a generous size. I also cut out a circle for the center (but neglected to make this a generous size, poor Sammy.)

Sam wrote something he liked about Kenzie on each petal. Something that made her a good friend to him. This was a great chance for us to talk about good qualities to look for in friends (and to hold for that matter …)

He glued his flower together and voila! This bucket-filling kindness friendship birthday card was all set.

There you have it friends … to simple? Perhaps. But maybe the best ideas are just that.

And if not, I have a super cool cardboard tube magnetic marble run for the fridge heading your way. Because that’s awesome too.

Just for fun – can you read all of those petals? Leave a comment to let me know. First one with all 6 correct wins a copy of one of my books – your choice. A little bit of fun to start our week!

I hope your week is off to a lovely start friends, thank you for reading.
