Summer will be here before you know it! The air is warm, and the snow is gone, which is officially waking me from my hibernation. It is time for this Mama bear to venture back outside.
Every year I tell myself I will learn to love winter. And every year, I don’t. I don’t even like it, let alone love it. But NEXT year, I will find a way.
But no need to worry about that now, because summer is in sight! Those glorious, hot, golden days stretching out before us have will soon arrive. It is definitely time to get outside and soak in every last drop.
As you might know, I like to share with you super simple activity calendars here on the blog for holidays. Ideas that are no-prep, full of learning, and that play on the excitement our little ones are feeling for the upcoming holiday.
Well, as I was going over these calendars, I realized there was a rather large gap in them over the summer. There are no real “activity calendar-worthy” holidays in summer. I guess that is likely because summer itself is just like one giant holiday when you are a kid (or when you are me and at the furthest point from winter).
So I decided it would be a fun idea to make a Summer Learning Activity Calendar! And since it is the season for being outside and in nature, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to make it a nature-themed calendar.
Mark my words, my friend, you will never find a nature-themed winter activity calendar in this space. No siree. Any winter calendars will involve indoor activities, likely on the couch, and most certainly under blankets, and with hot chocolate in hand.
This Learning with Nature Summer Activity Calendar is full of simple learning to enjoy when outside.
It is full of ideas like:
- Find one stick, two stones, three leaves, and so on. How high can you go?
- How many steps does it take to get from your house to the closest tree?
- Sing the rainbow and find something in nature for each colour.
- Bring safety scissors outside to cut the grass.
- Use tally marks to count how many birds you see in 5 minutes.
Nice and simple, right? Just the way summer should be.
