Learning to hear sounds and play with rhymes is such an important skill, and it can be so much fun for kids to explore early on! Parents can easily introduce rhymes through songs, poems, letter and number rhymes, games, and so much more. In fact, rhyming is one of the seven key areas of phonological awareness that kids need to master before they can start reading.
Because itโs such a big part of early literacy, I love making rhyming a regular part of my teaching for little ones!
Today, I have some fun number rhymes to help your child learn and write numbers. This helpful activity is one of so many from my resource Play Into Kindergarten Readiness.

Number Rhymes for Littles
Writing those first numbers can be challenging, which is why it is always good to make it fun. Now, let’s start rhyming with number one!
The number 1 is one straight line, you can do it, itโs looking fine!
Around the tree and straight on back, the number 2 is on a railroad track.
Around the tree, around the tree, thatโs the way to make a 3.
Down, across, and down once more, thatโs the way to make a 4.
Down, around, and put on a hat, the number 5 is made like that.
Down, around, and into a mix, thatโs the way to make a 6.
Across the sky and down from heaven, thatโs the way to make a 7.
Make an โSโ and close the gate, thatโs the way to make an 8.
Circle high then straight on down, the number 9 will touch the ground.
Around, around, and around you go, when you get home, you have a 0.
Iโd love for you to try this fun number rhyme activity with your childโitโs a great way to spark excitement about learning number formation! Not only will it help your child practice counting and writing, but itโll also sneak in some reading and rhyming skills without them even realizing it.
