Any time is snack time when you have a toddler! This makes food-themed crafts and activities perfect for those little ones to play and learn with food—you know, between snack times.
I have found that adding in a planned and special craft or activity every day is a perfect way of breaking up and adding balance to our days—allowing us all to thrive. Today, I want to share with you some of these activities that all have a food theme.
These activities and crafts are ideal for young children from 18 months through to 2 1/2 years old. Toddlers at this age, and, truthfully, children at every age, crave a rhythm and routine to their days. Food is the perfect backbone for a rhythm to your day! You can chat with your child about what happens before and after breakfast, what to expect before and after lunch, and what their day will look like before and after dinner.
As you play with these activities, see if you can support your toddler’s development even further by helping them come to know their daily rhythm.
I just love how play is simply enough when it comes to toddler development. All developmental milestones for toddlers can be met through daily play! In fact, having a simple toddler activity planned for you each and every day—in exactly this way—is what my Playful Days Toddler Program is all about!
We build vocabulary and a strong knowledge base by playing with all sorts of themes—just like this one, Food! Not only will this provide your little one with a beautiful foundation for learning, but it will provide just the right amount of structure to those long days at home with wee ones, and build beautiful memories as well.
The activities below are great examples of the daily activities you will find in my Playful Days Toddler Program!

Food-Themed Crafts and Activities for Toddlers
These crafts and activities are excellent examples of similar activities that you will find within my Playful Days program!
The Drawing Chef – This fun and creative activity is perfect to ignite your toddler’s imagination. Grab some paper plates and let them create the feast of their dreams! I always like to do this one right in our play kitchen.
Apple Boats – While we made these as a snack, you could forgo the peanut butter and pop them in some water for a floating science exploration!
Play Food and Foil by Play Teach Repeat – This simple set-up is sure to engage those toddlers! You can pre-wrap some play food in tin foil and have your little one unwrap the food and cook a meal. This one is fabulous for strengthening those little hands and a great sensory experience as well!
Spaghetti Cutting Sensory Bin by Busy Toddler – If you are not averse to using food in play, this is a fabulous sensory activity for toddlers! And if you had some plastic play scissors, you could even let your little one explore cutting. If using food in this way doesn’t feel right to you, you could use some yellow yarn and some red pompoms to create the same effect.
Green Pea Sensory Bag by Happy Toddler Playtime – This awesome sensory bag would be fun for toddlers to explore as is, or you could add a circle on the front with a permanent marker to challenge little hands to attempt to gather the green peas in the circle!
Paper Avocado Craft by Glued to me Crafts Blog – I have mentioned before how I love it when crafts for our little ones turn out cute, but how I also want them to be meaningful for our little ones to make. I don’t want a craft that is really ME making it, I want my toddler to be the one having the fun! This avocado craft is the best of both worlds. Gluing all of that tissue paper is a fabulous sensory activity—and having toddlers rip the strips of tissue paper into squares first would add to the learning as well. Plus, when you pop googly eyes on just about any craft it turns out cute.
Ice Cream Sensory Play by Fantastic Fun and Learning – Grab those cotton balls and get ready for a delicious sensory bin experience! I just love when a sensory bin ignites imaginative play, and this ice cream themed sensory bin will definitely accomplish that.
Milk Toast by 123Homeschool4Me – Alright then, back to snack time! This fun idea is a great way to add in some color learning and is honestly quite magical no matter your age!
There you have them, my friend, some food-themed crafts and activities perfect for you to enjoy with your toddler.
