I love Love and I love Valentine’s Day! It’s such a great time to show your admiration toward friends and family. Well, I guess we should do that all the time, BUT February 14th makes it that little bit extra special. And with any holiday, it is, of course, always a great time for crafting! Today, I have a fun and unique Valentine’s Day activity you can make with your little ones to share with you. I am going to help you create your own Celtic Heart Knot! This hands-on craft is from my Valentine’s Day School Family Unit Study.

Valentine’s Day Activity: Make a Celtic Heart Knot
A Celtic Heart knot is not only fun to make but also has such a beautiful meaning behind it. The Knot design is in the shape of two hearts, one facing down and one facing up. The two hearts represent two people in love, and the continuous line between them represents the eternity of love. And like I said, I love Love, so it is easy to love everything about Celtic Heart Knots!
This particular activity needs only one material, so let’s take a look:
Materials:
- Rope, paracord, or thick string around 30″ long
Thats it!
Directions:
Simply Inspired has a wonderful tutorial that you can watch and follow along with step-by-step:
Now, of course, I tried this with my own kids, and it was simple and fun to do. We followed along with the video pausing or rewinding at various times. It was very rewarding for the kids to see it all come together at the end, and it also helped teach some patients that slow and steady was best for this activity!
Valentine’s Day Activity Extension Ideas
An awesome way to extend this activity would be to turn your Celtic heart knot into a bracelet or necklace, use it to make a keychain, or create a unique Valentine’s Day card by hot gluing the knot to the front, and maybe adding some paint.
I hope you guys loved this Valentine’s Day activity! Celtic Heart Knots have been around for a long long time and is something I plan to keep creating with my children. I hope you do too!
