5 Things we MUST do Before it SNOWS!

5 things to do before it snows

The snow is coming.  Madeline, my personal meteorologist, told me it would be today … and while it is certainly icy cold, I am pleased to say no snow yet!  Don’t get me wrong, I love the snow – I just don’t love the snow for such a loooooonnng time.  We have snow usually until April …. And if it were to begin in October? That would mean 7 months my friends!!

So, this “Snow Scare” as I have been calling it got me thinking about all of the things I long for during the February Blah.  I decided I would compile a list of 5 things I really hope to do before the snow comes.  Want to join me?  Of course, you can play along even if you are not getting snow …. And you are also welcome to send me your address for a February visit.

Here are some things we are going to be busy doing over the next week or two (please two… or even three!) before it snows.

Huge Collecting Nature Walk  – if you have been reading our blog for awhile, you likely know my Sammy is a BIG collector … of leaves, sticks, any ‘treasures’.  One of the things he misses most in the winter is the lack of things to collect.  Since everything is covered (covered, covered) with snow, it is hard to go for a collecting nature walk.  We can go for scavenger hunts with shovels though … that’s fun too!

Jump on the Trampoline with Fall Leaves – Madeline had this idea last year while we were raking some leaves in our backyard.  We piled them onto the trampoline and the kids went for a huge jump.  They had an absolute blast! We haven’t done it yet this year because our tree has barely started to change colour, yet alone lose leaves.  We may be cutting it close this year …

Eat Ice Cream in the Backyard.  I love ice cream.  LOVE ice cream.  But, I am not one of those people who loves eating it anytime.  Don’t get me wrong, I will eat it anytime – but I enjoy it so much more without snow.  We definitely need to have (at least) one more ice cream cone in the backyard before the snow falls.

Have a Picnic.  We need to invite some friends and have one last great big picnic.  The boys love picnics, and we do have them inside in the winter time – but it isn’t the same.  We need one big last picnic.  Perhaps we will even turn it into a Welcome Winter Picnic (slightly more positive then my original title, “Winter is coming so might as well enjoy one last nice thing before everything is freezing and covered with snow” – yes?)

Makeover the Basement.  Our basement does not get used too much in the spring, summer, or fall.  The occasional rainy day, or when someone is sick and wanting to stay inside, we go down and play – but otherwise the toys just sort of sit there.  SO why on Earth is it so messy???  It is a question I wonder all the time! But one way or another, it has become very disorganized and rather uninspiring.  Not a fun, creative play place for my wee ones.  It definitely needs some sprucing up before the winter snow.

Just writing this is making me want to go outside right now.  Which makes me realize the Basement Makeover may be a challenge to accomplish …

Looks like I better get busy!  Lots to do before the winter snow falls.  Alright Old Man Winter – I’ll race you … ready … set … go!!
