{GIVEAWAY} A New Way to Engage Learners

August 1, 2018 by Sarah 64 Comments

I just love discovering cool new things. And I also love when I get to GIVE THEM TO YOU! I had the opportunity to interview one of the creators of Study.com (so awesome!) and they have graciously offered to have me host a giveaway for THREE of you!

I am so excited to partner with Study.com today for this post. Study.com is a cutting edge company using the internet to make amazing learning opportunities available to all.

Using the power of the internet to engage learners world wide! Study.com is such a neat company. #sponsored #technology #teacher #teaching #children #education

Do you remember that one incredible teacher you had as a child? Maybe one that was so passionate about science it sparked your passion too? Or the one who lived for all things Math, which made you realise how fascinating math really could be?

Of course, not everyone is passionate about everything. Study.com uses the internet to bring you PASSIONATE and engaging lessons that are sure to wow students and spark passions that might otherwise not be explored. I was so intrigued with this idea that I thought it would be wonderful to do an interview to find out more. And so I did!

Here is the interview I had with Connor of Study.com. Be sure to check out the final interview question so you can enter our Giveaway at the bottom of this post.

Sarah: What exactly is study.com and who is it meant to help?

Connor: Study.com is a one-stop-shop for everything education with the mission of making education accessible. No matter what stage students are at in their educational journeys, our engaging video courses and online tools can help them learn and succeed.

Study.com is for anyone who has an internet connection and the desire to learn. Our users include K-12 students who want to study for tests and improve their grades, college students searching for ways to save money on tuition and graduate faster, teachers who want to bring their classrooms to life, and professionals looking to earn certifications and accelerate their careers.

Sarah: How have you used the power of technology to engage children?

Connor: At Study.com, our mission is to make education accessible, to anyone, at any age. But kids, especially, can have a lot of things competing for their attention. So, we’ve set out to make our platform work for kids and help them stay on track with their education.

Between swim meets and clarinet recitals, kids may not have a lot of time to brush up on a concept that they might be struggling with in class or need to learn for a homework assignment. So, we have tens of thousands of engaging videos and text lessons, on virtually every subject, designed to break big topics down into bite-sized chunks (about 5-10 minutes each) to help kids engage with the material and retain the information.

A new year means a fresh new start. Love your homeschool. Visit the How Wee Learn Shop.

In addition to our amazing library of lessons, Study.com also has short quizzes to help drive home the information and virtual flashcards that help gamify the student learning experience and keep them engaged in mastering the material. Kids can also use Study.com to set up a study plan to keep them on schedule, submit questions to our tutors to get more clarity on difficult-to-understand topics, or browse our homework help answers to learn the steps of answering tough questions.

Sarah: What tools and resources do you offer for teachers and homeschooling parents?

Connor: We have a ton of great resources for teachers to use in the classroom. Our video lessons are perfect to show on a projector to break up a lesson or drive home a topic and keep students engaged. Our platform also boasts a Virtual Classroom feature with which teachers can assign out Study.com lessons, either to the whole class or to individuals, as homework. From there they can see when the lesson has been completed and gather performance data with full score reports. In addition to our pre-built text and video lessons, we also have thousands of lesson plans and activity templates for teachers to use when planning their classes. These help teachers save time in their lesson planning

I think this video does a great job of showcasing some of our best classroom features for teachers.

Study.com offers myriad resources for homeschool families! Homeschool families can use our lessons individually to supplement their own curriculum or use our library of pre-built courses as their curriculum. Study.com offers courses in everything from basic algebra and social studies to college level calculus and organic chemistry, over 150 of which are recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS).

We also believe that homeschool students are a great fit for earning college credit through prior-learning-examinations like CLEP and DSST. These exams allow students to save money on their college tuition by earning college credit by passing a test; with the flexibility in curriculum available to homeschool families, these exams are a viable option for homeschoolers looking to challenge themselves and save money while doing so! We offer study guides and practice tests for these exams to help students prepare and ensure that they pass their exams on their first try!

Sarah: How does study.com help Teachers-to-be?

Connor: Study.com aims to support teachers in all stages of their careers, including the certification process! Prospective teachers are required to pass comprehensive exams covering everything from general subject-matter expertise to pedagogy and professional ethics. We offer in-depth study guides for national exams like Praxis and NES, as well as state-level exams like TExES, FTCE, and CBEST. These study guides include practice tests and flashcards to fully prepare prospective teachers for their general knowledge examinations, as well as any subject-specific exams they are planning on taking.

These exam prep materials aren’t just for prospective teachers either; many teachers find themselves taking additional certification exams throughout their careers. This can be for re-certification, expanding their certifications to new subjects/grade levels, or even earning their administrative credentials. Whatever the reason for taking the exams, we’ve got comprehensive resources for any teacher looking for a leg up.

Sarah: Finally, please tell us about the Giveaway you are offering!

Connor: We are giving away three free 3-month memberships! Winners can pick between our Teacher Edition membership or a Test Prep Membership. In addition, we are offering all HowWeeLearn.com readers 20% off their first three months of membership with the coupon code “HowWeeLearn18”!

To enter this giveaway, please leave a comment below. That’s it!

Just a comment letting us know if you are a teacher or parent and how old your children/students are and you are entered to win one of the free 3-month memberships!

Winners will be selected randomly on Monday August 6th, 2018. Good luck!
