I love using problem-solving when teaching my kids math. As a teacher, I know that it is best to teach skills together and not isolate one skill at a time. I also know it is important for that teaching to be cyclical, letting children have exposure to it again and again.
Problem-solving questions accomplish both of these things, plus one more HUGE one. They can be made to be applicable to real life! Children don’t need to wonder when they would actually use the skill – they can see clearly how and when the skills will be needed.
This is one of the reasons we love our Family Unit Studies so much! They combine all of the important subjects and skills for children to have exposure to, altogether, and entirely cyclical. And yes! They include problem-solving questions, too.
Our Unit Studies are perfect for the whole family to enjoy together – from those little ones in Kindergarten, all the way to those finishing the elementary years.
Within our Unit Studies, we provide math word problems. It is amazing how much learning can take place with only ONE word problem a day!
To see if your family is also a fan of word problems, and to give you a glimpse into how amazingly awesome this style of learning is, I wanted to start you off with a “Word Problem Bundle.”
This free printable is for you to use with your children in any way you like. I personally love doing word problems at the dinner or breakfast table. You could also do them when in the car, out for a walk, or just before bed!
This 10-week bundle is a great way to get you started and allows you to get a peek at what the math inside our Family Unit Studies is all about.
