A photo on Friday, because sometimes all you need is the picture.
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a ‘photo on Friday’, but when I thought of this idea I just needed to share. It’s rockin’
(Madeline just read the above sentence and said — “Mom, don’t drop the ‘g'” — but I’m going to anyways, yes, it’s happenin’)
Little ones love scavenger hunts and this one is quick and easy and easily adjusted to any occasion.
I wrote “Spring time” on ten rocks (one letter on each rock) and hid them around the yard. My little ones found them and put them on the paper that also said “Spring time”.
Easy and fun.
This one is great to help little ones settle into play outside. Once they started hunting my little ones would take a break to climb a tree, or swing on the swings, and then get back to the hunt.
And it would be great for so many things – even a birthday party if the letters spelled “Happy Birthday”.
Depending on your little one you might put capital letters on the paper and lowercase on the rocks to practice some matching – or perhaps no paper at all if your little one happens to be a bit older.
I hope you and yours have fun with this idea friends, and thank you for reading. Happy Friday!

I love it! I’ve just spent about a million hours cutting out circles with letters so 24 preschoolers could spell out their names on the caterpillars I also cut out 3 times, including the backing paper and the laminate. They’re cute, but this is so much more tactile and WAY easier. This is what I’m doing next time. Thanks for your post (though I have to agree with Madeline about dropping that ‘g’).

You are funny Kristi! Madeline will be happy to have back up. My first year teaching Kindergarten I was lucky to have a veteran kindergarten teacher next door. She gave me valuable tips and advice daily! One of my favourites was, “If it takes you longer to prepare than the kids to complete, don’t do it!” This one is tricky, especially when you have oodles of little ones to prepare for – but I really like the sentiment. I try to keep it in mind when I am planning activities – and this scavenger hunt was one of those activities! Quick and easy to prepare and was used again and again and again by my little ones. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
