Birthday Countdown

April 2, 2015 by Sarah 2 Comments

The countdown has begun. Already. Though, I suppose, why shouldn’t it? A birthday is a wonderful reason to celebrate, and a 5th birthday? Hardly anything better.

With a 5th birthday mere days away (albeit 20 days …) my Sammy was very excited, and ready to do something to get ready for his birthday. I figured this idea would tie him over, and save me from the “How many more days until my birthday?!” questions.

Sam absolutely loves making paper chains. I think it is because it is an activity he can do completely on his own. So making a birthday paper chain countdown was only logical!

I cut out the paper strips for him this time, and labelled them with numbers 1 through 20. Then I had him put them in the right order, and link them together into paper chains.

At the very end of the paper chain we blew up and attached a balloon, just to add to the birthday excitement.

And that is all there is to it! Every day after breakfast time Sammy cuts one chain off of his balloon and reads the number to see how many days left until his birthday. This morning brought us to day 18 … and I can assure you the next 18 days will be filled with checking this chain, and probably double checking with Mama a time or two as well.

I do love birthdays! Thought I might share this idea for those of you who have little ones anticipating big days. It really is a fun way to countdown.

Hope you are having a lovely week. Thank you for reading!
