Fall Crafts for Kids: Gourd People

September 16, 2013 by Sarah Leave a Comment

fall crafts for kids

Our gourd fun has just begun!  This fall craft for kids is so open ended.  My wee one became so creative – building people, animals, and even a train.  Fall crafts for kids are the perfect way to incorporate nature into your wee ones day.

For this fall craft for kids, we used:

Gourds

Tape (which held everything very nicely to the gourds)

Outdoor treasures: pine cones, leaves, maple keys, sticks, pebbles, etc.

I made the first gourd person (which was ridiculously fun!) and then invited my wee one to come play with me.  The beauty of this Fall craft for kids, is that it is just as much fun for adults!

I had my gourd man set up as inspiration, and lots of leaves, sticks, pine cones, etc from our nature walk.  Then my wee one got to creating!

This fall craft for kids inspired my Sammy be so creative.  He made people (laying down, as he became frustrated trying to have his stand), animals (I love the reindeer), and even a train.  Madeline enjoyed it just as much!  Her elephant is so cute!

This craft was incredibly fun.  It was also a great learning activity.  This fall craft for kids taught my wee ones about balance and weight, art, different consistencies, counting, problem solving (it was tricky to push sticks through the gourds), and of course creativity!

We still have a lot of fun left with these gourds!  I simply love the Fall.

Do you have any creative suggestions for our gourd play?  I’d love to hear them!
