Earlier this week, I shared a look inside my Grades 1–3 Literacy Curriculum. Today, I’m excited to do the same—but this time, we’re diving into a Math Curriculum Review for Grades One, Two, and Three.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big believer in keeping things simple, meaningful, and—most importantly—doable. Around here, we always choose quality over quantity. Learning should feel exciting and engaging, not overwhelming.
That’s exactly why, when I designed my Math Curriculum, I focused on the essentials. I cut out the unnecessary extras and made it just one page a day—clear, effective, and easy to stick with.
Yep, you read that right! One page a day is all it takes to build a rock-solid foundation!
So let’s take a closer look at how we make that happen in this math curriculum review from How Wee Learn.
Grade 1, 2, and 3 Math Curriculum Review
In Grades 1, 2, and 3, we teach math using the power of storytelling. This creates an engaging and fun math experience for little ones. These first few grades set the stage for how our kids feel about math long term, so it’s important that it is both effective and enjoyable. Through the story, children bring math concepts to life by helping characters solve problems.
This approach offers two key benefits:
- Children see how math is relevant and useful in daily life.
- Skills are revisited and practiced again and again in a cyclical manner, allowing children to fully understand concepts over time, even if they don’t grasp them immediately.
Your child’s coursebook follows a one-page-per-day format, perfect to keep learning focused and stress-free. There is no complicated prep work, no extra fluff—just open and go. You’ll also find built-in reviews to help reinforce what’s already been learned. These review pages are sprinkled throughout the program to support mastery without feeling repetitive or overwhelming.
The How Wee Learn Grade 1, 2, and 3 Math Curriculum covers the five strands of math:
- Number Sense
- Algebra
- Data
- Spatial Sense
- Financial Literacy
Each grade level builds on these skills in a natural, intentional way.
Grade One Math Curriculum
In Grade 1, the focus is on number sense, basic addition and subtraction, place value, telling time, and early geometry concepts like shapes and patterns. It’s a great starting point for building confidence as well as enjoying the learning process.
Grade Two Math Curriculum
Grade 2 takes things a step further with regrouping in addition and subtraction, skip counting, simple word problems, measurement, money, and more work with time and geometry. The skills expand just enough to challenge your child while still keeping things manageable.
Grade Three Math Curriculum
By Grade 3, students dive into multiplication and division, larger numbers, fractions, area and perimeter, and more complex problem-solving. There’s a steady progression that supports deeper understanding without jumping too far ahead too fast.
And finally, each grade will come with an answer key and a course completion certificate to celebrate all your child’s hard work.
There you have it—an inside look at the Grade 1, 2, and 3 Math Curriculum Review! Each week, your child will embark on a journey through whimsical stories filled with lovable characters and meaningful adventures. Along the way, they’ll build essential skills in the five strands of math.
If you value quality over quantity, then this curriculum was made for you. Simple, effective, and joyful learning, one page at a time.
