Learning doesn’t need to be long, complicated, or overwhelming. With the right approach, your child can cover ALL core literacy and math skills with just one page of literacy and one page of math a day.
Yes—one.
And yes—it really works! Tried, tested, and true. Let’s take a closer look at our Grade School Math and Literacy Curriculum.
How Wee Learn Math and Literacy Curriculum
The How Wee Learn Math and Literacy Curriculum focuses on quality over quantity, providing your child with everything they need in the simplest and most effective way. Our cyclical approach keeps concepts fresh, ensures deep understanding, and makes learning actually stick.
All core skills are covered in one page a day for math and one page a day for literacy. No Teacher’s Guide, no separate units to coordinate, no stress, no fuss.
Simply open your coursebook and go!
About the Math Curriculum
In the How Wee Learn Math Curriculum, your child will develop their skills in the five strands of math:
- Number Sense
- Algebra
- Data
- Spatial Sense
- Financial Literacy
Our Math Curriculum meets or exceeds all grade-level expectations for Common Core State Standards (USA) and the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (Canada).
Grades 1 to 3: Storytime Meets Math Time
Young learners absorb ideas beautifully through story. In Grades 1-3, we teach math through narratives, adventures, and delightful characters that make abstract concepts stick. Kids aren’t “doing math”—they’re experiencing it through the power of storytelling for an engaging, meaningful, and fun math experience!
Grades 4 to 8: Ready to Dive Deeper
Math is so much more than memorizing steps and filling in blank boxes. Older kids are ready for bigger challenges, so we explore all five strands through sequential, integrated lessons, word problems, critical thinking, and problem-solving. It’s math that builds thinkers, not just number-crunchers.

What are the five strands of math?
1. Number Sense
Understanding how different kinds of numbers work and behave under operations, building fluency (facts/strategies), and flexible “number sense” to make sense of calculations and judge reasonableness in real contexts.
2. Algebra
Developing algebraic reasoning through patterns and relationships, variables, expressions, equations/inequalities, coding, and mathematical modelling.
3. Data
Building data literacy by collecting, organizing, representing, and analyzing data (statistics) and using probability to interpret information and make predictions/decisions as critical consumers and producers of data.
4. Spatial Sense
Combining geometry and measurement to develop spatial reasoning—describing and comparing shapes, visualizing and navigating, and measuring attributes (e.g., length, area, volume, time, etc.) using appropriate units and tools.
5. Financial Literacy
Applying money and finance concepts in real-life contexts—value and use of US and Canadian currency, budgeting/planning, and making informed consumer decisions.
About the Literacy Curriculum
In the How Wee Learn Literacy Curriculum, your child will grow their skills in:
- Reading (with a focus on fluency and comprehension),
- Writing (with a focus on spelling, vocabulary, and proofreading), and
- Media Literacy (with a focus on critical thinking).
Literacy is more than reading books and writing sentences. It’s understanding, communicating, imagining, and interpreting the world around us.
Grades 1 to 3: Building the Foundations
For our young learners, we start with short stories, playful writing activities, and simple journaling. Kids practice just a little each day—but that little bit adds up fast! It keeps learning joyful, curious, and confidence-boosting.
Grades 4 to 8: Writing With Depth & Voice
Older kids explore reading, writing, and media literacy in greater depth, including more advanced reading skills, exploring different perspectives, and persuasive writing. They learn to express ideas clearly—and to think critically about what they read and see.
