Today, I’m excited to share a look inside my Grade Five Homeschool Math Curriculum!
I am a big believer in quality over quantity, which is reflected in all of my resources at How Wee Learn. Children do not need to be sitting at a desk for hours each day. If your little ones are anything like mine, they certainly don’t want to be either! Children need time to be children—to play and explore, to laugh and be silly, to climb trees and jump in puddles.
That is why, when creating my Math & Literacy Curriculum, I removed the “fluff” and boiled the core skills down to just one page a day.
Yep, you read that right! One page a day is all it takes to build a rock-solid foundation. The rest of your days can be spent playing, exploring, learning about fascinating new topics through hands-on Family Unit Studies, and spending quality time together.

How Wee Learn’s Grade 5 Homeschool Math Curriculum
How Wee Learn’s Grade Five Math Curriculum is carefully designed to teach math in a cyclical manner. This means that once your child learns a new concept, we don’t just leave it there. We circle back to it with cumulative reviews and word problems, reinforcing the skill in different ways until they’ve mastered it. This method helps your child deepen their understanding bit by bit, making sure each concept sticks.
The workbook is divided into six sections, covering the five math strands plus a review.
Five Strands of Math
- Number Sense
- Algebra
- Data
- Spatial Sense
- Financial Literacy
Grade Five Math Curriculum Weekly Rhythm
So, how are these skills taught in just one page a day? Let’s take a look at the weekly rhythm so you can see how these skills fit together and progress each week.
Day One and Day Two: Introduce a New Concept
On Monday, we will dive right into a new math concept. Kids will be taught a new skill with descriptions and exercises. Sometimes, it’ll take two days to fully cover the topic, so we spread it out to ensure your child has time to fully grasp the material.
Day Three: Practice with Word Problems
On Wednesday, we apply that new skill to word problems. This not only helps kids understand the relevance of math in their everyday lives but also fosters critical thinking as they work through real-life scenarios.
Day Four: Cumulative Review with Word Problems
On Thursday, we will really get kids thinking with a cumulative review of word problems. This is where that practice makes perfect comes in! Kids will have to fully understand what the question is asking and what skill to apply.
Day Five: Consolidation & Review Questions
To wrap up the week, we ask the kids to “teach” the concept they’ve just learned. They can create their own word problems, solve them, and even explain how they approached the problem. This helps reinforce the material and provides the opportunity for review.
Grade 5 Math and Literacy Curriculum
The key to mastering Grade 5 math (or any subject) is sequential, integrated learning. Skills are taught one step at a time, in isolation, and then revisited in different forms throughout the curriculum. This gives your child the time they need to really grasp the concepts and fosters both problem-solving and critical-thinking skills along the way.
If you value quality over quantity, and the idea of one page a day makes you think, “Yes!! This is how it should be!!” Then this is the homeschool math curriculum for you!
