Christmas is a big deal at our house. New years and new years day are not so much. But this year is a bit different. We are travelling and will be on holidays over New Years. So I decided we would do some celebrating and crafting for a Happy New Year celebration!
I have mentioned in numerous posts how my wee ones love hats. So when I saw these pipe cleaner crowns from Fawn Over Baby I knew they would be perfect!
And this craft will be so perfect to bring with us on our travels because all we need is a package (or two or three…) of pipe cleaners.
To Create our Happy New Year crowns
I simply wrapped two pipe cleaners together to form the base of the crown, measuring it against my kids heads. Then the kids had at it! Of course Benjamin was really just a ‘wearing’ participant – and even that he had a bit of trouble with!
But Sammy and Madeline could both do this craft pretty much on their own. It was simply twisting pipe cleaners together and attaching to the base of the crown.
Madeline got a little festive and made a candy cane Happy New Year crown. She simply twisted a red and white pipe cleaner together and bent it to look like a candy cane before attaching it to the crown. She made two candy canes for her crown (which Sammy proudly wore) and it turned out very cute.
We did one Happy New Year Crown with tall points – a real Royal crown you might say! To make it, the pipe cleaners were bent in half, each side attached to the base of the crown. The pipe cleaners were overlapped slightly, making the crown look rather complex – though it was simple and easy fun.
These crowns that you are seeing were made ahead of time — just for practice — for the love of hats (and crowns)!
We hope you have a wonderful Happy New Year celebration with your loved ones! Thank you ever so much for your support of How Wee Learn. We have some BIG things in store for you next year – I can’t wait!
