Why I Love Jolly Phonics

August 27, 2013 by Sarah 2 Comments

Jolly Phonics is a program that is meant to teach letters and letter sounds.  There are a TON of different ways for children to learn their letters and sounds – this is just one.  I will write about many different incidental learning activities to help your wee one learn their letters and sounds in more natural situations.  However, I had to add in my two cents about Jolly Phonics and why I love it.

Jolly phonics suggests teaching letters in this order

LetterSounds

By teaching the letters in this manner, children are able to begin forming words very quickly.  After learning the first 6 letters kids can make words in the “at”, “an”, “it”, “ip”, “ap” and “in” families.

The program also encourages multi-sensory ways for kids to learn about letter formation.  As well, the program addresses the 42 sounds – not just the 26 letters.  This allows kids to segment words better and can actually improve spelling.

Check it out and please let me know what you think!
