A photo on Friday – Garden edition.
I thought I would share a few pictures of our garden with you. I shared our Super foods Vegetable Garden Plan with you awhile ago, and we have been busy, busy, busy, turning our lawn into that garden. Since this is only our first summer in this home we have a lot of big plans that will just have to wait. But in the meantime, things are growing!
The snap pea trellis fort I made for my little ones is slowly but surely beginning.
With a friend of a friend parting with some hedges we thought it would be a great addition around the edge of our garden, turning it into more of a secret garden. Of course by “we thought” I meant I thought. And that lovely husband of mine spent last rainy weekend trenching and planting. I have big plans for this too – with a beautiful garden gate – it won’t be too long before we can take that chicken wire down to keep out the ladies.
Speaking of the ladies – want to see how quick our babies grew up? They are more than half the size of our big chickens now. Oh, and Henny Penny who we thought was broody and going to hatch some eggs? She is not. Nope. Apparently she just wasn’t too fussy with how busy the nesting boxes were and liked the quiet in the bushes. Turns out I still have a lot to learn about chickens.
In fact, it turns out I have a lot to learn about a lot of this farming stuff. This first year has been quite the learning experience, but I have hardly even scratched the surface. With the barn going in soon, and bigger animals joining us shortly after then I fear my learning curve is only going up.
But that is what I signed up for when we moved out here. Completely self-inflicted. And completely worth it.
