Amazing Ways to Play with Wikki Stix!

February 2, 2017 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Today I am excited to partner with Wikki Stix for this sponsored post sharing with you the incredible ways to use Wikki Stix!

It was just before Christmas when Madeline and I were out doing a little Christmas shopping. I turned down an aisle and …

“OH MY GOODNESS! MADELINE – LOOK!” I said, perhaps a little too enthusiastically.

My daughter’s sensitive teenage ears were apparently bothered by the frequency of my voice causing her to look over both shoulders to ensure no one she knew was nearby seeing her mom get so excited about kid’s art supplies. However, she then saw what I had found and a smile formed ear to ear as she said, “I remember those!”

We had found Wikki Stix! I used Wikki Stix all the time in the Kindergarten classroom. And since Madeline was only 6 when I first started teaching Kindergarten, she played with them every time she came to my classroom. Which was very often (first year teachers work looong hours).

You might be wondering … what are Wikki Stix?

Well, I am almost tempted to get a little Dr. Seuss-ish on the answer:

They are bendish and longish, and straightish and smoothish,

They never dry out, no I’m not being foolish!

Kids can make a bracelet, an animal and a letter,

I could keep on going, it just keeps getting better!

Ahem … Okay, that’s quite enough of that (according to that teenage daughter of mine anyways)

Wikki Stix are these amazing modeling sticks that you can use again and again. They never dry out, no matter how you store them, and they can be mixed together and unmixed again easy as can be. This makes them ideal to use in daycare settings, classrooms, and at home. They stand up very well to being used by kids!

Let me show you how we have been using them at home with the boys:

We use them for strengthening little hands, fine motor skill development, and sensory play

Popping them onto a mirror for silly faces, learning about emotions, and more quiet time play

Twisting them together to make bracelets and jewellery

Making Birthday cards — which actually double as the birthday gift!

And to practice forming letters and names

There are so many ways to play! The Wikki Stix website has even more ideas. All of the creations above can be made from one single pack of Wikki Stix. It really is amazing.

We were given the Little Travelers pack which comes with a small carrying case and some little game boards inside. Perfect for the car or airplane. (And under $10)

When I was teaching in the classroom, this was all we used – simply a pack of Wikki Stix. But my oh my how times change!

I used to make up little cards for the kids to trace in order for them to practice their numbers, letters, and shapes. But now there is no need for that! And saving time is something that every teacher (and Mama) can appreciate.

Wikki Stix has created fabulous card sets that have done all that work for me.

There are sets to practice letters

And sets to practice shapes using a neat dot-to-dot idea

I tell you friends – these Wikki Stix are amazing. We have been fans for over 8 years now. These are tried and TRUE.

So much learning and fun packed into a tiny package!
