Who doesn’t love coloring pages? I know they are always a big hit during Quiet Time over here. Recently, I combined a few of my passions, resulting in these 78 FREE Color-by-Letter Coloring Pages!
One of my passions, as you might know, is quiet time. Quiet time helps me add a lovely rhythm to our days, gives my little ones time to be independent and recharge, and gives me time each day to be on my own and recharge too.
Another passion, as you also might also know, is teaching little one’s letter recognition. As a literacy specialist, I have a very strong opinion on how we should be teaching children their letters, sounds, and pre-reading skills.
Well… those passions have combined to create this love baby (too much… I see that.) 78 pages of FREE printable coloring pages that ALSO teach little ones their letters, sound blending, and pre-reading skills!
When we teach little ones their letters and sounds, we start with their name letters and then progress through the letters in small groups, in a special order. In this order, we teach letter names, sounds, and introduce sound blending through simple word families. You can read more about this process here: Teaching Letter Recognition.
These coloring pages complement that method perfectly! Each grouping includes separate coloring pages for every lowercase letter, uppercase letter, and word family.
These coloring pages are also a wonderful companion to How Wee Read. How Wee Read is my learn-to-read resource. It covers it all, from rhyming to reading in 70 sequential, simple, and playful lessons:
- Step One: Phonological Awareness (7 lessons)
- Step Two: Letters, Sounds, and Blending (12 lessons)
- Step Three: Special Rules (4 lessons)
- Step Four: Decodable Readers (47 lessons)
If you’re ready to teach your child to read with everything laid out for you step-by-step, you are going to love How Wee Read!

Interrelating fact. When printers would set the type for boors or newspapers. The letters would be stored in two drawers (cases). The upper case would have the capital letters and the lower case the small letters. The print would leave the lower case open while working and only pull out the upper case when he needed a capital letter. Hence the terms Upper and Lower Case.

Such a neat fact. Thank you for sharing that with us!

Where would I find the printables with sight words?
Sarah says
Hi Robin! Great question. They are included in this bundle. Each set has lowercase, uppercase and sight words included so you can print whatever you need. I hope this helps!
