Counting Snails

September 18, 2015 by Sarah Leave a Comment

A photo on Friday, because sometimes all you need is the picture.

And this is actually not one of those times. But that’s okay because I really want to share this with you. Why? I’m not too sure. It’s not that great of an idea, perhaps some would even say it might be considered slightly “cruel”, but here we go all the same:

I shall begin with my photo (but since I might as well break all the rules if I am going to break one, here are 2 photos)

And now the, “what on Earth are they doing?” answer. We are counting snails. Very often we go for a walk down to the bridge where there are oodles and oodles of snails in the tall grass. The boys love to collect them, look at them, find the tiniest one they can, the biggest one they can, you know – normal snail finding stuff.

So we began to wonder if we were always seeing the same snails, or if they were new. Who knew? Well, my friends, in but a few short days, we will. Oh yes …

We decided to number the snails (and since writing numbers on them was actually quite tricky, Sam opted for dots). So we dotted ten snails with 1- 10 dots and later in the week we will go back to see if we can find those same 10 snails or if they have moved along.

Exciting, right?

Hey – some days, out here? That’s just as exciting as things get.

It's beginning to look a lot like... Christmas School! Learn Together as a Family. Visit the How Wee Learn Shop.

Don’t worry – I will keep you posted.

Thank you for reading friends – even when this was suppose to be your day for only looking. Oh photo on Friday …

So tell me, what are your little ones up to lately — Catching snails? Frogs? Butterflies?
