Halloween Preschool Crafts are a fine art… a careful blend of fun, education, and independence. Well, this one has it all! Sammy and I made Pumpkin Name Puzzles, and we had a lot of fun—cutting, matching, and gluing.
If your little one is learning his or her name, this is such a fun Halloween preschool craft to get the ball rolling… or the pumpkin rolling…
I have mentioned before that I really feel preschool crafts need to take more time for wee ones to complete than for mamas or teachers to prepare. And this one fits the bill!
Halloween Preschool Crafts
Materials
For this pumpkin name puzzle, you will need:
- Orange construction paper shaped like a pumpkin. Draw ‘ridges’ and write your wee one’s name
- Scissors
- Glue
- One more piece of construction paper to assemble and glue the pumpkin name puzzle on
Creating a Pumpkin Name Puzzle!
This very simple Halloween Preschool Craft has little ones practicing three skills: cutting, matching (or spelling), and gluing.
As you likely know, I highly recommend starting your ABC teaching with your child’s name letters. After that, we move through the alphabet in a very special order. I chat all about that here: The order for teaching letter recognition.

This Halloween name puzzle craft is absolutely perfect for that first step to teaching the ABCs!
Here’s how we did it:
Have your wee one cut on the pumpkins ‘ridges.’ I always say to my Sammy, “Thumbs Up!” while he is cutting, reminding him to hold the scissors properly.
Lay out your puzzle pieces to show your little one what their completed puzzle will look like. Then mix them up!
Next, I had Sammy find each letter to his name and place them in order. I reminded him that his puzzle will look like a pumpkin.
After we glued it all down.
Finally, Sammy decided we needed a stem. And perhaps a bit of a rest.
He had a lot of fun cutting those stems! I think we ended up with 12 to choose from. The boy loves to cut!
Halloween Preschool Crafts can be so much fun for wee ones. It is always wonderful to bring learning to life—and this is done so easily with Holiday crafts.

This was a wonderful activity! My three year old granddaughter cut the pieces and we worked on her letters and sounds, as she was flying it together. My two year old grandson really enjoyed flying the pre cut pieces on in order of his name. Bother kids loved the experience!! Thank you!!
