I’m very excited to partner with Around the World Stories today as I take my kids around the world.
I love doing amazing activities with my kids. I want them to experience and explore as many things as possible in these precious early years – but at times, that can feel a little overwhelming.
Actually – it can feel very overwhelming.
Where do I begin? How do I find these incredible experiences? How can I let them learn and explore all the amazing things this world of ours has to offer? And how can I afford it all?
Well imagine my delight when I came across Around the World Stories. Thanks to Matt and Tania I am taking my children around the world – right from my living room!
The concept is amazing. Matt and Tania are storytellers and they are currently traveling Europe with their 3 young daughters to gather information for their audio stories. They are even blogging about their adventure (sigh)
These audio stories transport children to countries all over the world. We have been using these magical stories for one month now.
About once a week we have our ‘Around the World Stories Day’ and the boys just love it! We decide on a story we would like to hear by title — most recently was Maya and the Mountain Man. We then talk really briefly about the country the story is about (this one is Germany) and we find it on our map.
Next, the boys wait patiently as I make myself a tea (a very important step) and then we simply lay back, relax, and get swept away to Germany.
The stories are completely engaging, humorous, and fascinating – but never upsetting or frightening. They are quite long (20-30 minutes), so my four year old has a few little toys nearby to play with as he listens.
The story we listened to this week was told from Maya’s perspective as she goes on a trip with her family. We learn all about Germany as we follow Maya and her family on their journey. We learn about landmarks, the culture, some jobs, local food, and transportation.
Each story comes with a parent’s resource pack which offers even more learning ideas and cultural information.
We also visited the Around the World Stories Pinterest boards and went to the “Germany” board to choose a German craft to try. The boys also wanted to look up a recipe for apple strudel with vanilla cream, which I was all too happy to help find.
I can tell you that I am learning so much from our Around the World Stories Days. SO much. And they are nothing but relaxing fun for me. No stress, no preparation, just pure enjoyment and tons of educational experiences for my little ones.
If you are looking to take your little ones around the world, but just can’t quite manage the plane tickets right now, I would strongly suggest you try this instead.
Plus – no jet lag!
