Summer is a wonderful time for crafting! These preschool crafts for summer are just perfect for 2 and 3 year olds. You will find crafts great for indoors and outdoors! If you are looking for crafts for a different theme or season please be sure to check out my main Preschool Crafts page.
Who loves summertime crafting? ME! But, to be fair, I love crafting in every season so it was a biased question. BUT, still a true answer – I love preschool crafts for summer! One of the best things about summer crafts with little kids is the ability to do these things outside. The mess just washes away with a hose or the rain.
Not all of these crafts are messy – in fact, most of them simply have a beautiful summer theme – but when the weather is nice, it is so fabulous to take our crafting outside all the same. The fresh air, the sunshine, the nature, it is the perfect space for creating.
I hope you love these summertime crafts for your little ones!
Preschool Crafts for Summer
Flower Crafts for Summer
Friendship Flowers – This craft always puts a smile on someone’s face and can start some great discussions on friendship. We used this friendship flower on a birthday card, writing down all the reasons Sammy appreciated his friend. Alternatively, classmates can write qualities on 3 -5 friends’ petals and display them on a “Garden of Kindess” or “Bouquet of Kindness” bulletin board.
Letter Flowers – The shape of flowers are perfect for working on word families or words that start with the same letter! Be like my Sammy and turn it into a scavenger hunt, inviting your child to look for those words in the room, in the house, or in the garden. This activity could make for a very summery word wall in a classroom!
Weaving Sunflower Seeds – This simple paper plate sunflower craft is such a winner! It can easily be made with items found at home and it is chock-full of learning! Cutting, painting, color mixing, weaving, all in one place!
Summer Butterfly Crafts
Name Symmetry Butterflies – If you haven’t already noticed, we love name crafts around here! Our child’s name is so important to them and often one of the first words they’ll ever write. Your preschooler will have so much fun painting their name, smooshing it, then seeing what comes out on the other side.
A Marble Painted Monarch Butterfly – Marble painting can create stunning effects and children loving seeing what happens as their marble moves through the paint. We thought this would work perfectly to decorate our butterfly wings. You might be tempted to marble paint everywhere now!
Preschool Crafts for Summer Great for Indoor or Outdoor!
Summer Crafts and Activities for Kids – Summer is all about making memories, but summer can also be really hard. You’re out of routine, the days are longer and nobody wants to go to bed. We are here to ensure that memory-making is easy and that you get to have some fun too. This is a fabulous list of crafts and activities that your kids can do mostly independently while you relax.
Cottage Crafts for Kids – Speaking of memories, oh cottages! So many new and funny stories come from family day trips and time spent at cottages. When everyone is pooped from the outdoor exploring or you get rained out, pull out a craft. These cute cottage crafts can turn into great keepsakes or even annual family traditions!
Handprint Canada Flag – On July 1st we celebrate Canada Day, in Canada (obviously!) and it’s a fabulous reason to get festive in the middle of summer! Kids can join the fun by making a flag to display or to carry to a parade.
Build a Dump Truck Craft – I think little ones experience a special pride and sense of ownership when they can play with something they made themselves. This preschool craft for summer can be made entirely using whatever recycled materials you have on hand.
Let’s get out there and enjoy that sunshine! These preschool crafts for summer are sure to put a smile on those little faces and create beautiful memories to last all year long.
And if you are not really one for crafts, I suggest you choose one from this list and give it a try. Perhaps things have changed? Perhaps doing a craft with your preschooler outside is all that was needed to make you relax and enjoy the experience. And perhaps not! But it’s worth a try.
Happy summer crafting friends!
