Loofa Snowmen!

January 22, 2018 by Sarah Leave a Comment

I do believe I have found the recipe for getting my creativity flowing. The key seems to be a glass of wine and a shower (Don’t worry – I shower at night, so the wine is reasonable). I tell you – SO many inspired crafts come to me in the shower.

Actually, I would love to know what normal people think about in the shower …

I needed to come up with a creative art exploration for my Kindergarteners for the week (as I still teach Kindergarten one day a week) and was coming up blank. But as soon as I popped in that shower I saw my loofa!

My train of thought was sort of along these lines …

“Okay … playful art … winter …

snowmen? Painting snowmen?

Ooooh look at this loofa! It would be perfect for stamping snowballs!”

Seriously … this is my life. I am not solving world hunger or peace – but goodness the 4 year olds in my life have some fun crafts.

I suppose we all have our ‘thing’…

Like always, my own little monkeys tested out the art exploration for me. It worked like a charm, though used far more paint than I had anticipated. Those loofas really soak up the paint!

Since I knew we would want to stick things to our snowmen, I added white glue to the paint. I did about a 50/50 mix and it worked very well.

My boys simply dipped the loofa into the white paint/glue mixture and stamped it on the paper. They then repeated this for the second and third snowballs. Voila!

Next, they added buttons, gems, feathers, popsicle sticks, and other treasures to complete their snowmen. Once their paint/glue started to dry, they would dip the treasure into the paint/glue mixture before sticking it to their snowmen.

This craft also worked beautifully in the Kindergarten classroom. Before hanging them up on display I went around with the hot glue gun to really ensure the heavy buttons and sticks were attached.

My boys had a brilliant time, just as my Kindergarteners did! This is truly one of those classic crafts great for all ages.

…Oh you wonderful loofa – what else could I use you for?

I now own a class set, so goodness knows there will be many more loofa crafts heading your way…

Thank you so much for reading friends. I hope you are having a wonderful week.
