Textured Owl Craft

August 25, 2014 by Sarah 2 Comments

It was a good morning for crafting today.  A little drizzly and cold outside, and everyone at home together.  I pulled out some craft supplies and let my little ones start crafting!  While they were creating, I got creating too.  I like to craft, and I have started doing so along side my little ones.

We started playing with different textures, including ripping the front off of cardboard to feel the ridges inside.  The shape just so happened to be somewhat similar to that of an owl – so we decided to create … an elephant (nope – just making sure I hadn’t lost you).

This little owl makes an adorable craft!  And it is full of different textures making it ideal for little ones.  We just used what we had on hand, which was some cardboard, felt, construction paper, tissue paper, and buttons.

To begin, I cut a peanut shape out of the cardboard.

Next, Sam (4) and I took turns gently peeling the front layer off the cardboard revealing the ridges.

After, we added a little heart shaped piece of construction paper for the owl’s face, and two yellow eyes.  Then I handed the glue bottle over.

This owl wound up with a tissue paper belly, felt nose, button eyes, and cardboard wings.  A true collaboration between all of my little ones.

It wound up so very cute!  We ended up using it as a birthday card for my nephews ‘whoooo’ just turned one.  Boy this craft was a ‘hoot’!  (Didn’t think I could post the owl craft without the corny ending, did you?!)

Hope your week is off to a great start!  I have a few neat posts coming your way this week – please consider following along with us on Facebook so we can keep in touch!  Thank you.

Tip: I found ripping off the top layer horizontally was much easier, and less messier.
