It’s March! You know what that means – this months edition of Preschool Classroom Tours! Michelle has not let us down this month. She has amazing preschool classroom ideas for this month of almost Spring. An ice cream dramatic play centre, brilliant ideas for strengthening fine motor skills, light table play that is so inviting, and an awesome obstacle course! I hope you find an idea or two just right for you and your preschoolers.
Alright my preschool teacher friends, I am so eager to take you on a tour of Michelle’s creative preschool classroom again this month. The preschool centers she has thought up are fabulous!
Let’s get right to it …
March’s Preschool Classroom Tour:
I love how well rounded this preschool classroom is every single month. There are centres that cater to those preschoolers who are a bit more rambunctious and energetic, and centers for those who need a little more quiet and stationary play.
There are also centres for practicing fine motor skills, gross motor skills, literacy, numeracy, sensory play – the whole shebang!
Dancing Corner for Gross Motor and Dramatic Play
This sweet little space is tucked away in the back corner of the classroom and includes a full length mirror, a small dance mat, and a shelf with some ballet clothing. Little dancers will love to get creative with this center.
Fine Motor Bug Rescue
A great fine motor centre for the preschoolers to enjoy this March is this big rescue! The little plastic bugs have been stuffed inside of whisks for little fingers to rescue. To add another learning element, there are plastic containers the same colours as the bugs so colour sorting can also take place in this centre.
Fine Motor Beading Centre
Michelle always puts so much thought into the way her centers and activities are set up for her preschoolers. This is such a beautiful invitation to create a bracelet! A tray holds all sorts of beautiful beads of various sizes and colours. There are a few little mirrors in the bottom of the tray, and a vase holds the pipecleaners. Little hands can get nice and strong as fine motor skills increase with each bracelet created!
Tweezers and Marbles!
Using some large wooden tweezers, little hands can try to pick up marbles and balance them on wooden slices that have little holes drilled in. I imagine picking up those marbles would be very tricky work for little hands! This centre would work on hand strengthening, fine motor skills, concentration, as well as hand-eye coordination.
Water Beads on the Light Table
On the light table this month, preschoolers can practice scooping, pinching and placing water beads into all sorts of containers. Isn’t this centre absolutely inviting? I could spend hours immersed in play here! This is sensory play on so many different levels. If you are looking for a simple DIY light table, check out our version here: DIY Light Table
Cozy Corner
For preschoolers who might be looking for a cozy quiet centre on any particular morning, they can cozy right on up here! With some fancy calming jars and some headphones, this space is ideal for a little one who might need a few quiet moments on his own.
Preschool Numeracy Centre
At this numeracy centre, preschoolers can draw with dry erase markers right on the table! There are so many different ways children might choose to use this center. Perhaps they will practice drawing the numbers, or doing tally marks!
Literacy fun at the Playdough Centre
Preschoolers can practice rolling nice and long snakes of playdough and then forming letters of the alphabet! You can grab your free set of printable alphabet cards right here: ABC playdough mats. This activity is great for strengthening little hands as they roll and pull the playdough, for learning how letters are formed, and also for sensory play!
Playdough Dramatic Play
Who doesn’t love ice cream?! This ice cream dramatic play centre is sure to be a hit with your preschoolers. I love the addition of prices on the sign for the various items for sale! Little ones will be counting, adding, and serving ice cream cones all day long.
Indoor Preschool Obstacle Course
Preschoolers will be climbing over, under, across, and through with this awesome indoor obstacle course for the month of March! Tires and boxes and ramps all get popped together so children can really get those gross motor muscles moving. Michelle added in some words to introduce literacy to this obstacle course – brilliant, right?!
There you have it friends, our March preschool classroom tour. I hope you enjoyed these ideas as much as I did. There are so many bright and cheerful preschool centre ideas that it is sure to get us through the rest of the winter with a smile.
I am going to be whipping out the light table and doing some water bead play myself – I might even let the kids join in!
Happy March friends, thank you so much for reading.
