Earlier this week, I shared a behind-the-scenes look at my Grades 4–6 Literacy Curriculum. Today, I’m thrilled to switch gears and dive into something just as exciting—a Math Curriculum Review for Grades Four, Five, and Six!
As I’ve mentioned just a few times before, I’m a big believer in quality over quantity. That belief is woven into everything I create at How Wee Learn. I keep things simple, meaningful, and—most importantly—doable. Learning should feel exciting and engaging, not overwhelming.
That’s exactly why, when I designed my Math Curriculum, I focused on the essentials. I cut out the unnecessary extras and made it just one page a day—clear, effective, and easy to stick with.
So, let’s take a closer look at how this practical and purposeful approach works in the How Wee Learn Grades 4–6 Math Curriculum.
Grades 4, 5, and 6 Homeschool Math Curriculum
The How Wee Learn Math Curriculum follows a cyclical approach that keeps concepts fresh and top of mind. Over the 36-week program, children revisit key ideas in new and meaningful ways to build lasting understanding. Instead of moving on after introducing a concept, we return to it through cumulative reviews and word problems. This ongoing reinforcement helps solidify learning and gives children multiple opportunities to apply their knowledge. Bit by bit, they deepen their understanding, ensuring each concept truly sticks.
Each grade covers the five key math strands:
- Number Sense
- Algebra
- Data
- Spatial Sense
- Financial Literacy
The curriculum combines direct lessons, word problems, and consolidation questions to ensure deep comprehension of the material—and it’s all delivered in a consistent, one-page-a-day format that makes math manageable and stress-free. Just open your coursebook and go!
And don’t worry, each grade also comes with an answer key and a downloadable course completion certificate.
So, how are these skills taught in just one page a day? Let’s take a look at the weekly rhythm so you can see how these skills fit together and progress each week.
Day One & Day Two: Introduce a New Concept
We start the week by diving into a new math concept with clear explanations and practice questions. If the topic is more complex, we spread it across two days to ensure it really clicks.
Day Three: Practice with Word Problems
Mid-week, we apply the new skill to word problems. This helps kids see the real-life relevance of what they’re learning and builds their problem-solving confidence.
Day Four: Cumulative Review with Word Problems
We circle back to earlier concepts with a cumulative word problem review. This reinforces past learning and keeps previously taught skills fresh.
Day Five: Consolidation & Review Questions
To wrap up the week, kids revisit and explain the new concept, sometimes by creating their own problems or walking through their thinking. This reflective practice helps solidify understanding and boosts retention.
Grade 4, 5, and 6 Math and Literacy Curriculum
The key to mastering Grade 4, 5, or 6 Math—or any subject, really—is sequential, integrated learning. In this curriculum, skills are introduced one step at a time, practiced in isolation, and then revisited through new contexts and challenges. This approach gives your child the time and space they need to truly understand each concept, while building essential problem-solving and critical-thinking skills along the way.
If you believe in quality over quantity and love the idea of learning math in just one page a day, then this is the math curriculum for you.
