GIVEAWAY! How to Help a Colicky Baby in 5 Steps!

April 11, 2016 by Sarah 33 Comments

I am so excited to partner with Happi Tummi to bring you this post on How to Help a Colicky Baby.

How to help stop a baby who cries constantly! Perfect for colicky babies, works like a charm!

Now of course I am not a doctor. I am a Mama who has had three babies, one of which was very, very colicky. I will not name that poor little babe, but I will say that it was not Madeline (and it was not Ben).

This little colicky babe of mine cried and cried and cried from about 4:00 in the afternoon until 11:00 at night, every single night.

To put it lightly, it was very hard.

(Until about 11:05 each night when we all felt like this …)

How to help a colicky baby! Perfect for when baby just won't stop crying.

He had such bad pains in his little tummy. He would scrunch up those tiny knees to his belly, and then straighten them out quick. And then scream and cry for hours (and hours).

The doctor calmly told me with a smile that it sounded like colic and it would pass. I remember thinking then that she must not understand what I meant. There was no way this screaming and crying could be just “colic and pass with time”. And to smile? Good grief!

I remember searching the internet for ideas, suggestions … HELP. I found some useful information, and some of it quite helpful and effective. I will share that in just a moment.

Raising kids who can. Visit the Shop Today. shop.howweelearn.com Photo of the Raising Kind, Caring, Good Kids resource with a card that says, I am courageous; I can do hard things.

But the thing that truly and incredibly helped my little colicky baby was discovered one fateful afternoon. I had wanted to get out of the house, so a friend and I took babe and went to a baby boutique shop. I remember walking around looking at the neat little gadgets and gizmos for babies. Searching for something – something – that might help my baby. I was not going to give up. And then …. I spotted it …

Happi Tummi – instant relief for your fussy baby!

How to effectively and safely relieve colic

Too good to be true, I remember my friend saying. I hardly heard her though as it was already in my hand and I was bolting for the checkout.

Happi Tummi – a lovely warming, herb scented tummy wrap for infants – helped my babe immensely. The warming sensation relaxed his tense little body and I could instantly see relief. (Just look at the relief on that little face!)

How to help a colicky baby

Of course it did not stop him from crying completely and every time, but it helped him more than anything else I tried by a long shot. Every night we would pop it on his little tummy and walk him about. And every night that magic little Happi Tummi helped soothe and calm my fussy little guy.

So much so, in fact, that Happi Tummi is still my number one go-to baby shower gift for friends and family. I have recommended this product so many times over the past 6 years!

There is a lot of information on Colic and how to help on the Happi Tummi website. I thought I would compile a whole list of suggestions that might give you some ideas for how to help a colicky baby right here as well.

Because I have been there. And ‘there’ is one of the very toughest places to be.

Here are some things that helped my colicky baby, and I hope (I really, really hope) that they will help yours too.

  1. Happi Tummi
  2. Walking and bouncing – the combination of movement and being held really helped my little one. Often, a good, solid bounce step (not too big of course) was very effective.
  3. White noise – when my little one was born, we had a crazy loud exhaust fan over our stove in the kitchen. I would flick that on and walk my little guy around and around the island as he wore his Happi Tummi. The sound helped him (or at the very least it helped me to drown out that intense sound of infant crying)
  4. The tummy hold – a little bit of pressure on my babes tummy also seemed to help. We would hold him on his tummy, supporting his little head with our hands.
  5. How to help a colicky baby!Getting help – this is something that I did not do, but should have done. I was too embarrassed to ask for help. It was just one little baby – and not even my first! Mother’s are suppose to be able to make their babies stop crying. Mother’s are suppose to help, comfort, and nurture. Mother’s don’t need breaks from their brand new little infants – they are suppose to want to be with them every second. I told myself this again and again, feeling guiltier and guiltier by the moment. If I could go back in time, I would tell myself – sternly but kindly – ask for help. I had sisters, friends, and a Mom who would have happily come over to walk that crying baby around and around the island with the fan blaring, the Happi Tummi affixed, and do any other thing of which I asked of them happily. I could have had a tea and a bubble bath with the music blaring. I could have had time to heal my soul for an hour, so I could help my baby better. I could have and I should have – but I didn’t. I really, truly hope that you can and do.

How to help a colicky baby! The 5 most effective things for getting a baby to stop crying!!

And now, I am thrilled to announce that Happi Tummi will do a Giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a Happi Tummi – which makes the perfect for gift for any new Mom or Mom-to-be.

And if you don’t win, be sure to purchase a Happi Tummi in the month of April, as they will be making a donation for each and every Happi Tummi sold this month to support Child Abuse Prevention.

Liked Happy Tummi! I wish I had known of this when my daughter had colic. She still struggles to poop and a hot bath relaxes her belly so I’m game to try this too! (She’s now 12 months).
