Winter crafts for preschoolers! We have snowmen crafts, snowflake crafts, crayon resist winter art projects, snowy trees, and so many more! If you are looking for a specific season or theme, please visit my Main Preschool Craft Page.
The snow is in the air around these parts (given I live in Canada, so snow is generally in the air around these parts… but still…) And that can mean only one thing: oodles of time spent inside crafting our days away.
Winter is definitely the perfect time for preschool crafts. Think about it: no snow pants needed, no mittens that get soaking wet the second you step out the door, no wet soaks! Oh crafting, you really are the perfect indoor winter activity for kids.
Of course, we do need to get those little ones outside. I know. I really do. Every day, I promise. But I’m really just not a fan of winter. So to get me through those snowy outdoor adventures, I will be thinking of all of these craft projects!
Just before we get into all of the ideas, you’ll also want to grab this FREE Holiday Crafting Guide! It has easy construction paper craft ideas for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween that are perfect for your preschooler. Get your copy right here:
Preschool Winter Crafts
Here are all of my preschool crafts that are ideal for wintertime. I hope you love them as much as we do!
The Most Popular Winter Crafts for Preschoolers
Winter Art for Toddlers – This is a great collection of winter art that allows kids to get creative with various materials and art techniques. Adapt these activities easily to any age and explore the sights and colours of winter with your kids.
The Warmest Yarn Crafts for Kids – Making yarn crafts with kids is the perfect introduction to knitting, but it is a worthwhile activity in itself. Apart from being fun (of course!), relaxing, and so darn cute, yarn crafts help children develop their dexterity and fine motor skills. Start exploring with yarn with one of these cozy winter crafts for kids.
Winter Crafts for Kids – Another big collection of winter crafts! This one has lots of fun ideas for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and even big kids too!
Snowman Crafts for Kids
Snowman Birdfeeder – Who wouldn’t feel welcome to stop for a meal offered by this adorable snowman? Using items you already have lying around the house, you can make this craft with your child in a flash. This could lead to some great conversations about animal adaptations over different seasons.
Loofah Snowmen – If you want a super quick, creative preschool craft for winter, this Loofah Snowman is the one for you! Actually, this Loofah Snowman is great for all ages! Using a loofah makes it very simple for even our littlest crafters to “build a snowman.” Our white paint and glue mixture means that little ones can immediately decorate their snowmen and have items stick instantly. Kids are invited to explore different materials for decorating their snowmen because no two snowmen are alike.
A STEM Snowman Craft – Little ones will have such a fun time decorating this silly snowman who just can’t seem to stand still. They will have to problem-solve how to ensure their wobbly snowman doesn’t tumble over!
Snowy Winter Crafts
Birch Winter Tree Art Project – It’s always fun to show kiddos how everyday materials can be used in unique ways in art. Maybe your kids never thought they could use magazine print to make art—but voila!—you can! In this project, kids will be using multiple techniques and materials while exploring with color. We will show you what to do (and what NOT to do) to achieve this beautiful effect.
Snowflake Silhouettes – Play with the concepts of light and dark by making snowflakes with black paper instead of white! This preschool craft for winter requires scissors, which really strengthens fine motor skills. Kids of all ages, however, always delight in opening up their snowflakes to see what they have created. This will be a hit for everyone!
A Snowflake Printmaking Art Project – With paper, paint, and tape in hand, you’ll be all set to dig into this craft. Kids will love to see a new way to display their unique snowflake creations. This winter art project is easy enough for a preschooler and rewarding enough for an older child.
Snow Painting with Markers and Water – Snow painting with markers and water is truly an art experience at its finest. Kids use markers to color on the snow, then sprinkle or spray water over it to create different effects. Handing your children the tools and just seeing what they’ll do with it is really magical!
Winter Art Activity: Crayon Resist Winter Landscape – Crayon resist art is probably one of the easiest low-prep art activities you can do with kids of any age. You’ll be stunned at the beauty your children can create with such few supplies and with such little prep required. This crayon resist winter landscape is one of our favorite crafts for winter.
Even more fun winter crafts!
A Puzzle Piece Toddler in a Snowsuit – Wondering what to do with that lonely, lost puzzle piece, or the puzzle that lost its better half? Make a puzzle piece craft, of course! Flip it over and turn it round and round until something sparks your child’s imagination. Ah! I see it! A toddler in a snowsuit! Then, create it!
Paper Snowflake Puzzles – Making a paper snowflake puzzle is a wonderful way to learn all about shapes, practice those fine motor skills, and maybe give Mama a chance to drink her tea while her little one puts their puzzle together!
Pipecleaner Happy New Year Crowns – New Year’s Eve is a late evening affair, and it can be tricky to incorporate our little ones in the festivities. Why not have a little party during the day and make these festive pipecleaner crowns? This preschool craft for winter would be great for a family gathering or children’s party.
A Pretty Winter Lantern Craft – Lanterns add such an inviting and cozy glow to any room. Painting and decorating lanterns is easy to do and adds texture and additional interest to that cozy feeling. This simple preschool craft for winter will delight your child once they see it lit up, adding warmth to the home.
