Fall Activities for Kindergarten at Home

The fall season in our homeschool is filled with many wonderful activities. In this post I’ve rounded up some great fall activities you can do with your preschoolers and kindergarteners at home!

From arts and crafts to fine motor activities and everything in between this post contains some fun fall activities to include in your kindergarten at home plans. 

Fall Activities for Kindergarten at Home

Fall is an exciting time for any kindergartener whether going the traditional route or homeschooling. Below are 30 fantastic fall activities including crafts, STEM projects, literacy, math, fine motor and gross motor activities to do with your little one at home. 

Fall Crafts for Kindergarten

Sticking it to Fall Crafts – This fun and simple fall craft is perfect for kindergarten. You just need some contact paper, construction paper and tissue paper.

Fall Leaf Potato Stamp – This classic art technique would be so much fun for kindergartners. You simply need some potatoes, fall paint colors and paper. 

Leaf Sun Catcher Craft by The Best Ideas for Kids. Create this colorful, fall, leaf sun catcher craft with your kindergartener and decorate your windows. All you need is some contact paper and tissue paper in fall colors. 

How to Make Leaf Rubbings by Edventures with Kids. Leaf rubbings are a wonderful fall art activity for kindergarteners and a great way to learn about the vascular system of leaves. For this project you will need leaves, crayons and wax paper. 

Fall Leaf Chalk Pastel Art by Projects with Kids. This festive fall art project is a great way to introduce kindergarteners to an art medium they may not have experienced before. You’ll need black paper, a leaf stencil and chalk pastels. 

Fall STEM Activities for Kindergarten

Why do leaves change color in the autumn? A great science experiment for kids!

Why do Leaves Change Colour? With this neat STEM experiment your kindergartener will learn about leaves and why they change colors. For this activity you will need to collect some colorful leaves, coffee filters and rubbing alcohol. 

Explore How Water Travels Through Leaves by Buggy and Buddy. For this fall STEM experiment your kindergartener will observe how leaves absorb water. You’ll need some leaves, a cup of water and food coloring. 

Sprouting Indian Corn by Gift of Curiosity. This neat fall STEM experiment will show your kindergartener how corn sprouts but in a more exciting way! You’ll need an ear of Indian corn, a shallow dish and some water. 

How to Pop Corn on the Cob at Mom Endeavors. This fun, simple and tasty STEM activity is sure to be a hit in the fall and spark some curiosity in your kindergartener! All you need is a cob of popping corn, a paper bag and a microwave. 

Grow Pumpkins from Inside a Pumpkin by Life with Moore Learning. With this simple science experiment your kindergartener will discover what the insides of a pumpkin looks like as well as learn how pumpkins grow! All you need is some small pumpkins and some soil. 

Fall Math Activities for Kindergarten

The Great Gourd Competition – Comparing gourds is a great way for kindergarteners to learn about sorting by attributes. For this fall math activity you’ll need a variety of gourds from your garden or store. 

Picking Apples – More, Less or Equal Math Game by Stir the Wonder. This apple themed game is a fun way for kindergartener to learn to compare quantity. You’ll need some apple manipulatives, a tree, a couple cups and a die. 

Fall Leaf Graphing by Life Over C’s. Graphing is a great way to show quantity and the attributes of a group of objects. For this fall math activity your kindergartener will collect a variety of leaves and then graph them out using this free printable. 

Gourd Measuring Activity by The Pinay Homeschooler. This fall themed measuring activity is perfect for kindergarten hands-on on learners. You’ll need some gourds or images of gourds and snap cubes to measuring with. 

Apple Patterns by The Kindergarten Connection. This hands-on apple patterning activity is perfect for a fall themed kindergarten math activity. You will simply need some pompoms in apple colors, a clothespin for pinching and printable pattern strips. 

Fall Literacy Activities for Kindergarten

Fall Leaf Letters Craft – This adorable Fall craft will help reinforce letter recognition for kindergarteners. All you need are some colorful fall leaves and contact paper. 

Rhyming Acorns Fall Literacy Activity by Mrs. Jones Creation Station.  Kindergarteners will have fun matching up rhyming word with this printable acorn activity. Make it more fun by hiding the acorns in a sensory bin!

Pumpkin Patch Sight Word Activity by The Kindergarten Connection. With this fall literacy activity kindergarteners will practice the sight words by reading, building and writing them!

Uppercase & Lowercase Letter Sorting Tree by No Time for Flashcards. This hands-on fall literacy activity kindergarteners to sort uppercase letters from lowercase letters. All you need is a tree and some fall leaves with letters written on them. 

Fall Leaves Beginning Sounds Activity by The Kindergarten Connection.This printable fall literacy activity kindergarteners will practice identifying the beginning sounds each letter makes. Simply print out this activity and play!

Fall Fine Motor Activities for Kindergarten

Amazing Quiet bins for preschoolers!

Fall Button Trees – This fall fine motor activities uses pipe cleaners and fall colored buttons. It’s a great way for kindergarteners to practice fine motor skills.

Sewing a Fall Leaf Crown – Sewing is a wonderful fine motor activity for kindergarten. Kindergarteners will love sewing a fall leaf crown to wear in celebration of the season. 

Fall Kinetic Sand Writing Tray by Stir the Wonder. This Fall kinetic sand writing tray is a great way for kindergarteners to practice writing skills while getting some sensory input as well as working on strengthening their hand muscles.

Fall Gross Motor Activities for Kindergarten

Fall Gross Motor Action Dice Printable by Life Over C’s.   Kindergarteners will love this fall gross motor movement activity. Simply print and fold the dice, then head outside to get the wiggles out before your next lesson!

Apple Tree Game by Teaching Mama. This simple fall gross motor activity is a great activity for practicing balance. For this activity you’ll need some tape and apples from the fridge. 

Leaf Maze by Happy Hooligans.  How fun would this leaf maze be?! Simply rake the leaves in your yard into a maze and invite your kindergartener to walk, run or crawl through the maze. 

Pumpkin Relay Race by Pink Oatmeal. Your kindergartener will have fun with this fall gross motor game! All you need is an orange ball or balloon. Then have a race while trying to hold your “pumpkin” between your knees. 

Apple Tree Gross Motor Game by Inspirational Laboratories. This fun fall gross motor activity can be combined with learning for kindergarteners. It’s also a great way for kids to work on tossing skills.

Pumpkin Golf by A Girl And a Glue Gun. This fall gross motor activity is a fun way for kindergarteners to work on hand-eye coordination. You’ll need a plastic mini golf set and a pumpkin with a hole carved out.
