28 Ways to Beat the February Blahs

February 9, 2015 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Am I the only one who suffers from the February Blahs?  I am tired of the snow, and spring is still a long ways away.  The kids have been cooped up in the house far more than they are used to, and cabin fever is setting in.

This year, we are choosing to keep ourselves busy!  We celebrated Groundhogs Day (which I never before in my life have done) and we are eagerly crafting and preparing for Valentine’s Day.

And after that?  Well, likely colourful crafting and activities to burn off some of that endless energy.

So if you are looking for ways to thrive (or at least survive) this February, this post is for you!

28 Ideas to survive February

I have it divided into

1) Activities and crafts for Valentine’s Day,

2) Activities and crafts with LOTS of sunny colours,

3) And activities to burn off steam.

Here we go:

Beat the Blahs by Celebrating with Crafts and Activities

First up is this FREE Valentine’s Day Activity Pack! It’s filled with coloring pages, mazes, dot-to-dots, symmetrical drawings, and more—PLUS a 14-day countdown calendar with one simple activity to enjoy with your little one each day as you countdown to Valentine’s Day. So really… this one could count as something like 38 ways to beat the February Blahs all on it’s own… But we’ll just say it is #1. Grab yours right here:

Alright, now let’s get into 2 to 28!

Valentine Flowers – so pretty as a gift.

Heart Stamped Valentines (with Celery!) – this one has become an annual event in our household.

A Broken Heart Name Puzzle – add a little learning into your celebrating with this sweet name puzzle.

Why I Love … Valentines – this one is such a sweet way to remember all you have to be grateful for.  Gratitude is a sure fire way to beat the Blahs.

Woven Heart Baskets – these woven baskets are perfect for collecting valentines – either at school, or at home!

Wrap a Heart in Yarn (and Love) – sometimes all you really need is some love and yarn.

Kick the Blahs to the Curb with COLOUR

Gorgeously Groovy Tie Dyed Art – Now this is COLOURFUL.

Birch Winter Tree Art – splatter that colour back into your world!

Patterning Popsicle Sticks – Bright colour, bright colour, brightest colour, bright colour, bright colour, brightest colour …

Classic Rhythmic Shaker – shake, rattle, and roll the blahs right out of the house!

Sticky Paper Dolls – this one is a fun colour activity AND you can dress your dolls as though it is summer time ….

Pretty Paper Cup Flowers – a lovely way to brighten up and room in the house

Whimsical Washer Whirligigs – a lovely colourful activity, and a peak into the life of the wild ones in my home

50 Keepsake Worthy Handprint Art Ideas – maybe it’s just me, but a sweet colourful handprint just cheers me right on up!

A Colourful Textured Bunny – this one, while it was for Easter, is cute for anytime of the year.  It adds in a neat sensory element too!

Blossoming Tree – because sometimes the only way to beat the blahs is to pretend it’s spring … or at least remind myself that it WILL come.

Jump the Blahs Right Out

50 Number Games for Busy Kids – these activities are full of learning – and movement too!

Winter Nature Walk – head outside!  I know, the bundling, the ice, the snow … the snow … But you will feel so good once you get out there!

Zoom and Sort the ABCs – let them zoom around the living room!  All you need is painters tape.

A Rainbow Scavenger Hunt – run all around the house to find and make a rainbow.

Snowball Smashing – Inside or out, this is a fun way to learn about colour mixing.  And sometimes, in February, you just need to smash things.

Create a Stairway Marble Run – Up and down, up and down, up and down.  A great way to burn off some steam!

Make an Incredible Fort – who doesn’t love to make a fort?  It’s a great way to beat the blahs … you can hide from them …

Learn Numbers with Painters Tape – These 7 activities are a great way to spend a morning!

The ULTIMATE Rainy Day Activity – while we can’t do this one in our new house, it was a saviour in our old one.  If you have a garage you are in luck!

Flying into Letter Recognition – Paper airplanes and the ABCs .. a match made in heaven.

A Pillowcase Superhero Cape – whip one of these no-sew capes up in a matter of minutes, and let them climb, run, and leap that energy right on out!

And there you have it, 28 Ways to beat the February Blahs.  If you should not get the February Blahs, then just think of them as fun ways to add even more fun to your February!  hough truthfully, I don’t believe you … February and Blah just go together.

I am actually feeling excited about Valentine’s Day up ahead and the colourful activities we have planned in the days after. Perhaps this February won’t be all that bad?! Perhaps…

Thank you for reading, sweet friend.
